In this daily Bible reading is the account of Jesus healing a man who had been afflicted with a disease for 38 years. After healing the man, Jesus told him, “Behold, you have become well; do not sin anymore, so that nothing worse may happen to you.”
I conclude from Jesus’ words that people can become physically afflicted because of their sins. There is much sin in the world, and there is much affliction. We see it in the news daily, and the multitudes of drug ads seem to confirm this.
I personally experienced this in my own life. I was trending towards sin, and God brought me back in line by afflicting me. Fortunately, I recognized the linkage between my sin and my affliction. I then became more motivated to turn away from sin.
