In this daily Bible reading Jeremiah completes his prophecies and summarizes Babylon’s conquest of Jerusalem. Babylon’s conquest actually spanned many years. In the seventh year of King Nebuchadnezzar, Babylon carried away 3023 Jews into exile. In the 18th year of King Nebuchadnezzar, Babylon carried away 832 persons from Jerusalem; and in the 23rd year Babylon carried away 745 Jewish people. A total of 4600 Jews were carried into exile. Babylon destroyed Jerusalem in the 19th year of King Nebuchadnezzar. It appears that God gave Jerusalem and Judah ample time to repent and turn back to God. However, they refused to do so and suffered the consequences. America is in a similar position.
America has been given ample time to return to God but has not done so. God has not sent Prophets to warn America. Instead, He has provided the Bible, the Word of God. The Bible clearly tells about God’s coming judgment. Additionally, the Bible gives clear guidance on how to avoid punishment and destruction.
When God’s judgment comes to America, America will be without excuse. When judgment comes to each person, they will be without excuse because their own decisions will have determined their fate. The Bible is readily available to all people. However, they must choose to believe the Bible and to read it.
