In this daily Bible reading Jeremiah prophesies the return of Israel and Judah to the land of Israel that God gave them. Around 2000 BC God chose Abraham to be the father of a people who would become Israel and Judah. God promised to give Abraham’s descendants the land which is the current home of Israel and made a covenant with Abraham. God confirmed his covenant with Abraham’s son Isaac and Isaac’s son Jacob. Jacob became the father of 12 sons whose descendants became the 12 tribes of Israel.
With God’s direction and help, Israel conquered and occupied the the land. However, Israel turned away from God, As a result, God removed them from the land twice. The final removal was around 132 AD.
Today, God is returning Israel to the land just as He promised. Israel was restored as a state in 1948 with much opposition from the surrounding Arab nations. However, God has preserved and strengthened Israel. Today they are a small but strong nation with a powerful military.
Jews, the descendants of the tribe of Judah, are moving to Israel from the nations around the world. This immigration to Israel is increasing. New settlements are being built to accommodate the rapidly expanding population.
The prophesied return of Jesus Christ to be their King is not far off. I believe it could occur within my lifetime. Therefore, we should prepare ourselves now for His return.
