In this daily Bible reading is the account of the Jews beginning to rebuild the Temple, which the Babylonians destroyed. However, they met resistance from the inhabitants of the land: those who had been placed there by the Assyrians after Israel was deported. These inhabitants tried to discourage the Jews from rebuilding the Temple and hired counselors to further discourage them.
To me this was clearly an attempt by Satan and his followers to keep the Temple from being rebuilt and facilitating the worship of God in Jerusalem. Satan has been and will continue to be involved in turning people away from God. He is very active today.
The Bible says that the Temple will one day be rebuilt in Jerusalem. However, the former Temple location is currently occupied. Jewish access to that location has been and continues to be severely limited. However, I believe that Bible prophecy will somehow and someday be fulfilled.
