In this daily Bible reading God instructs Ezekiel to speak and to demonstrate to the people the coming judgment and destruction of Jerusalem. The people in exile with Ezekiel did not believe that God would destroy Jerusalem. They had false prophets among them who were telling them that God would preserve Jerusalem. The people did not want to hear Ezekiel’s prophecies.

God had Ezekiel demonstrate Jerusalem’s coming plight by cutting off his hair and beard. Ezekiel took one-third of his hair and it struck it with a sword. He took another one-third and burned it. He took the final one-third and scattered it to the wind. In this matter, Ezekiel demonstrated that one-third of the people in Jerusalem would be killed by the sword. One-third would be burned with fire, and one-third would be scattered among the nations. However, God instructed Ezekiel to take a few of his hairs and bury them in the edges of Ezekiel’s robe. These would be the few, the remnant that would survive and be preserved by God.

The Bible says that only a few people from Earth’s vast population over the ages will make it into Heaven. Most people will go to Hell. God has severely judged Israel for their transgressions against Him. However, the Bible says that God will restore Israel, and Israel will once again serve God. The Bible also says that one day Jesus will return to be their King. Events are happening in the world that suggest Jesus’ return will happen very soon. I believe it will be in my lifetime, and I am in my 70s now.
