In this daily Bible reading is the account of Moses speaking with God and expressing his reluctance to lead Israel out of Egypt. God then enabled Moses to perform miraculous signs so that Israel would believe that God had chosen Moses to lead them from Egypt. Moses was still reluctant, saying to God that Moses was not good at public speaking. Moses said that he was ‘slow of speech and slow of tongue.’ God then became angry and told Moses that Moses’ brother Aaron would be Moses’ spokesman. Aaron would speak for Moses.
This account tells me that God’s chosen instruments may not feel or believe that they are ready for the task that God may have for them to do. However, God has His reasons for choosing certain people. In Moses’ case, I believe that Moses’ humility and reluctance was a quality that God desired in him. God was going to do great things through Moses. God was even going to speak to Moses face to face. Moses would be allowed to see God. A person without such humility as Moses had would probably become very prideful with the power and privilege that Moses would have. Moses had the qualities that God wanted for the task at hand.
