In this daily Bible reading is the account of Moses going back up on Mount Sinai to meet with God and receive God’s instructions for Israel. Of particular note to me, God told Moses that God was a forgiving God but “He will by no means leave the guilty unpunished, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and on the grandchildren to the third and fourth generation.”
Fathers have a great responsibility and a great impact on their families. Children learn from their fathers and apply what they learn from their fathers to their own families: good or bad. They are also inclined to remain in their father’s religion: good or bad. A father can lead their children toward God’s Truths. He can also lead them away from God’s Truths. A father can lead his children into sin, or he can lead them away from sin. Whatever the father teaches his children will have an impact on his children and his children’s children. God says this will have impact to the third and fourth generation. We see this impact in the ghettos of America. Cycles of poverty and pain continue with only a few breaking free.
