In this daily Bible reading God tells Moses the 10 Commandments while on Mount Sinai. It is interesting that the Roman Catholic Church has separated the Commandments differently than the Protestants have done. The Catholic Church combined the first two Commandments. Then they separated the 10th Commandment into two. The First Commandment tells us we should have no other gods than the true God. The second commandment tells us not to make any physical likeness of what we suppose is in Heaven.

I believe the first two Commandments are separate and distinct and should not be combined. I further believe the Catholic Church combined them to minimize their practice of making contrived Heavenly figures such as statues of Jesus. The second Commandment clearly forbids this.

The 10th commandment tells us not to covet anything of our neighbors including our neighbor’s wife, house or his possessions. I think the Catholic Church separated this Commandment into two to balance  combining the first two Commandments. The Catholic Church proclaims the ninth commandment was to ‘not covet our neighbor’s wife.’  They then proclaim that the 10th commandment was to ‘not covet our neighbor’s possessions.’

I believe the Roman Catholic Church and religion in general, has misinterpreted the Bible in this and many other ways to serve their own purposes.   This erosion of God’s Truth has had the effect of leading people away from rather than toward God.
