In this daily Bible reading is the account of Amalek fighting against Israel, as Israel journeyed in the Sinai wilderness toward the ‘promised land.’ With this account we get a glimpse into the spiritual world’s activities. It seems that Amalek’s purpose was to keep Israel from reaching their goal and to inflict severe damage on Israel. I believe that Amalek was Satan’s instrument to harm Israel.
The Bible says that God chose Israel out of all nations on the Earth to be God’s special people. Out of all nations on the Earth, God set aside Israel to know God and to receive God’s instruction on how to live. God would bless and prosper Israel if they followed God’s guidance. Additionally, God allowed Israel to witness God’s miracles. He also gave them understanding to realize that God created them and that God is the greatest being in all the universe.
Israel was given great privileges and God’s protection from harm. However, Israel has turned away from God numerous times throughout the centuries. This is due in large part to Satan who has exploited and deceived Israel to turn from God.
Satan is a spiritual being with much power. He wants to impede God’s plans and turn people from God. Knowing this fact is essential if one desires to remain on the pathway that leads to Heaven.
