In this daily Bible reading Moses continues to give the people rules and ordinances to live by when they occupy the land. These rules applied to such things as adultery, violating a woman, and dealing with disobedient children to name a few. In many cases death of the violator was required in order to purge the evil from Israel. God wanted to keep Israel pure so that He could dwell with them.
The people were not 100% dedicated to God and motivated to serve Him. Israel had to be ‘weeded’ of those who were not dedicated to God. If God did that to America today, very few people would be left.
Jesus has provided the only way for people to be reconciled to God from their sinful lives. In early Israel, this pathway was not available. We are very fortunate that God has provided the way us to be forgiven of our sins and be allowed into Heaven after we die. The Bible says that Jesus is that way. He is the only way.
