In this Psalm David speaks of one of his godless and evil enemies, Doeg, the Edomite. David says of Doeg, “You love evil more than good, falsehood more than speaking what is right. You love all words that devour, O deceitful tongue.” This seems to characterize some of those who do not believe in or trust in God. They love evil. They are cruel, and they love to harm others. It gives them pleasure.
This world seems to be starkly divided between good and evil. We are all born with a sinful nature. However, some people become motivated to turn away from sin. They learn to believe in and trust in God. Unfortunately, most people do not.
This world provides a setting to identify the good and evil or the ‘wheat and chaff.’ When Jesus returns, the Bible says that he will separate the ‘wheat from the chaff.’ The ‘wheat’ He will gather to Himself. The ‘chaff’ will burn with unquenchable fire.
Therefore, our goal should be to turn away from evil pursuits and embrace the good. Then, we might be able to avoid the fires of Hell.
