In this Psalm David makes a statement that seems small. However, it is quite profound. David says, “My ears Thou hast opened.” God had opened David’s senses to perceive God’s Truths. David’s statement can be applied to reading the Bible.

I believe that most people in the world cannot perceive God’s Truths that He has spoken in His Word, the Bible. They cannot understand the Bible. Therefore, they are not motivated to read it.

I was raised as a Christian and had my own Bible. However, I never read the Bible. It had no appeal to me. When I was 40 years old, I started to listen to Bible teachers on the radio as I drove to work each day. Their teaching piqued my interest and I started to believe that the Bible had merit. At one point I believed that the Bible was true. An amazing thing happened next.

After I believed the Bible to be true, I could understand it. God’s Truths literally leapt off the pages for me. I then began to read the Bible each day. I gained a hunger for God’s Word. God had opened my ears. I have been reading the Bible daily ever since I believed it to be true.

The critical lesson here is that the Bible must first be believed before it can be understood. When we do that, we are demonstrating Faith in God’s Word. God will then open our senses to understand His Word.
