This Psalm affirms that it is better to trust in God than in mankind or the world for protection. The Psalmist writes, “The Lord is for me; I will not fear; what can man do to me?” Additionally, the Psalmist writes, “It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man.”
Believing in God will put us at odds with the world’s values. The world, which is spiritually ruled by Satan, hates God and those who follow God. Therefore, the world will persecute those who believe in God. On the other hand, the world will praise those who embrace sin. However, it is far better to reject the world’s values and influence and place our trust in God.
It is vital to realize that the world only has the power to physically affect us. The world can indeed harm or physically kill us. However, the world cannot harm our soul. Only God can harm our soul. Our souls are the most important part of us. Our souls are eternal, but our bodies are not. Therefore, we must protect our souls at all costs.
The Bible says that our souls will reside eternally either in Heaven or Hell. Trusting in the world’s values will result in our souls going to Hell. Trusting in God will result in our souls and resurrected bodies going to Heaven.
