In this daily Bible reading is the account of Daniel and his three friends, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, who were Jews taken captive to Babylon. They were of noble Jewish lineage. Therefore, the King of Babylon educated them to serve in his court.
Daniel achieved a high status in Babylon after he correctly identified and interpreted Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar’s dream. God had given Daniel a vision of the King’s dream and understanding to interpret the dream.
The King had dreamed about a large statue. This statue had a head of gold, breast and arms of silver, thighs of bronze, and feet of iron and clay. The statue represented the various kingdoms that would rule the Earth. The head was Babylon. The breast and arms were the Persian Empire and Greece, and the feet were the Roman empire.
The feet were unique in that they represented a kingdom that was strong and weak and whose parts did not adhere well to each other. Then in the King’s dream, a stone was fashioned which crushed the feet and destroyed the rest of the statute. The stone represented a new kingdom that will rule the Earth one day.
The new Kingdom will never be destroyed. It will rule forever. The Bible says that this stone represented Jesus Christ. Jesus will one day soon rule the Earth, and His Kingdom will have no end.
