In this daily Bible reading Jeremiah expresses his sorrow for the destruction of Jerusalem.  He also expressed  sorrow for his own plight.  Jeremiah was God’s Prophet and chosen instrument to convey God’s Words. However, Jeremiah suffered because the people treated him poorly. The  people despised Jeremiah for his prophecies against Jerusalem. Jeremiah also did not live in comfort, as Jerusalem was suffering from the Babylonian siege. So, Jeremiah was persecuted by the people and suffered discomfort from the Babylonian siege.

It is not easy to be God’s servant. Being chosen by God to serve Him comes with both blessings and hardships. The good news is that God will also provide the ability to endure discomfort. However, it will still hurt. While Jeremiah was suffering he also realized that he was not sin-free. The Bible says that ‘all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.’ The Bible also says that ‘no one is good, no, not one.

We have all sinned and will continue to sin. God will punish us for our sins, either now or after we die. If we want to avoid punishment after we die, we must repent of our sins before we die. We must truly be sorry for them and truly desire not to sin anymore.

The Bible says that we are in bondage to our sins and cannot break free unless we believe in Jesus Christ. Only Jesus can set us free from our bondage to sin and enable us to avoid God’s punishment after we die. Jesus is our only hope. We need to believe and trust in Him.
