In this daily Bible reading Paul writes: “And in hope we have been saved, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one hope for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, with perseverance we wait eagerly for it.”

In my opinion, this passage clearly refutes the notion that one can be assured of one’s salvation.  I believe that a person cannot be certain that they will go to Heaven after they die. Belief that one’s salvation is assured demotivates a person from persevering in living rightly before God.

Our mindset should rather be one of hope. We should hope that we will make it to Heaven and live our lives according to the Word of God.

The Bible says that ‘we must endure to the end to be saved.’ There will be trials along the way. Some of them will be very difficult. Unless we make the right choices during these trials, we will not stay on the narrow pathway that leads to Heaven.

The Bible says that when a righteous man departs from his righteousness and turns to wickedness, his former righteous deeds will not save him. He will rather be judged for his acts of wickedness.

We always have freedom of choice in our lives, to walk rightly or to walk wrongly. It is incumbent on each one of us to choose what is right, to choose our actions that will lead us to Heaven. Therefore, we must walk rightly before God and hope that we will be saved.
