In this daily Bible reading God instructs Moses on which animals, birds, fish, reptiles, and insects were suitable to eat and which were not. Some which were not suitable then are suitable now. I believe this is because food preparation methods have improved through the ages. For example, pork was unsuitable for early Israel. I believe this was because it had to be cooked thoroughly to remove trichinosis. The Israelites probably were not able to cook it thoroughly. God was protecting His people and keeping them healthy. And so, it is today. God’s guidance for us through His Word will keep us healthy in mind, body, and spirit if we obey Him.
A good example of God’s guidance for good health is avoiding sin. I believe that many diseases and afflictions are the result of sin in one’s life. Unfortunately, many people do not perceive the linkage between sin and affliction. Therefore they become reliant on drugs to ease their pain.
When one believes in God, then they will understand that God punishes us for our sins. The Bible says, “The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom.” When we understand that God punishes for sins, we then become motivated to avoid sin. When we avoid sin, our afflictions will cease and we will be healthy.
