In these passages is the account of David returning to Jerusalem. All of Judah came out to meet David. Mephibosheth also came out to meet David.

Ziba, Mephibosheth’s servant, had told David that Mephibosheth abandoned David. So, David had given Mephibosheth’s land to Ziba. Mephibosheth told David that Ziba had deceived or misled David. David’s response was to divide the land between Ziba and Mephibosheth.  Apparently, David was unsure of who was telling the truth. David knew that each was capable of lying to him.

Believers must realize that lying is pervasive in the world. They must take many things with a ‘grain of salt.’  What is troubling is that even those close to the believer may lie to them. Therefore, we must completely rely on God’s Word to guide us.

We are responsible for our own thoughts, words, and actions: not the thoughts words and actions of others. We must be obedient to God and trust Him. The Bible says, “Trust in the Lord and lean not on your own understanding. In all ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight.” This is a wonderful Truth.
