In this daily Bible reading is the account of Jehoram replacing King Jehoshaphat, his father, as King of Judah. Jehoram was a bad king who turned away from God. He was likely influenced by his evil wife Athaliah, the daughter of Jezebel.

Jehoram led Judah astray and re-established demonic places of worship. As a result, God punished Jehoram for his unfaithfulness toward God. Jehoram only reigned eight years and died a very painful death.

This account confirms that God does punish those who commit sins: those who disobey God. This happens today. There are many afflictions in the world. People are afflicted with various diseases and injuries, even death.  The drug industry is flourishing because of these massive numbers of ailments in the world.

I have personally experienced physical ailments in my life that can be directly attributed to my sins. Conversely, I have personally experienced good health and strength resulting from my obedience to God, even in my old age.

The Bible says, “Those who wait on the Lord will regain their strength. They will run and not grow tired; they will walk and not grow weary.” I find this passage to be very encouraging.
