In this daily Bible reading is the account of David being placed in charge of a thousand of Israel’s fighting men. God was with David, and David succeeded in all that he did. David grew in popularity and favor with the people. God was preparing David to one day be King of Israel. King Saul grew jealous of David and sought to kill David, but David escaped. Again, God was protecting David.
David is a good example of God preparing a person for God’s purposes. I believe that God prepares all his followers for His purposes. He uses such things as education, training, family, career, and everyday life experiences that will one day be applied.
In Psalm 23 David wrote, “Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies. Thou anointest my head with oil. My cup runneth over.” David was speaking about God preparing David to become King of Israel. David was quite aware of God’s help and guidance. More importantly, David was receptive to God’s guidance. We should also be receptive to God’s guidance in our lives.
