In this daily Bible reading Paul speaks to the Jews about Abraham who God deemed righteous because of Abraham’s belief and trust in God. The Bible says, “And Abraham believed God, and it was a reckoned to him as righteousness.”

The Jews believed they were saved by their rituals and adherence to the law, by their ‘works’ as it were. However, Paul emphasized that ‘works’ do not save. Rather, it is Faith that saves. True Faith produces good works. If it doesn’t produce good works, then it is not true Faith. The Bible says, “Faith without works is dead.”

Many people in Christianity have only a professed Faith. They were told by their religious leaders that their Salvation is assured because they professed their belief in Jesus. They were told they cannot lose their Salvation regardless of how they live their lives. These people are likely not motivated to persevere in living rightly before God. They rest on the notion of having an ‘assurance of salvation.’ This mindset and attitude could lead many to spend an eternity in Hell.

The Bible says that we must ‘persevere to the end to be saved.’ We are not assured of our Salvation. The Bible also says, “It is difficult to be saved.” This is not taught by today’s churches. The Bible further says, “Only a few will be saved.” This also is not taught in today’s churches. Therefore we must not rely on the flawed teaching in religious organizations. We must rather be guided by the Word of God, the Bible.
