These passages are a continuation of David’s prayer of thanks to God. God had saved David from his enemies. In his prayer David said, “The Lord has rewarded me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands He has recompensed me.”

David recognized the linkage between his behavior and God’s blessings. David knew that God blessed those who were obedient to God. David’s life was characterized by his obedience to God. The Bible calls David ‘a man after God’s own heart.’ God highly favored David.

In his prayer David also said, “I have kept myself from my iniquity.” David, like all of us, was tempted on occasion to sin. David fought against his temptations. I’m certain it was difficult at times.

So, too, must we fight our temptations to sin. It is not easy. The Bible says that each of us has a besetting sin. Some temptations are extremely difficult to fight. However, we must fight these difficult temptations if we desire God’s favor in our lives.
