In these passages the psalmist indicates that the Word of God provides a defense against sin in one’s life. He writes, “Establish my footsteps in Thy Word, and do not let any iniquity have dominion over me.”
The Bible says that all of mankind is born with a sinful nature. Therefore, our natural tendency is to commit sin, and we become enslaved to sin. However, God provided a way for us to break this bondage. Jesus is that way.
When we repent of our sins and place our trust in Jesus, He will free us from sinful bondage. How does He do this? He frees us through the Word of God, the Bible. The Bible says that Jesus is the living Word of God. Therefore, reading the Word of God brings us closer to Jesus and keeps us from sin.
Jesus said that He came into the world to set people free. Jesus enables us to turn from sin and lead lives that are pleasing to God. It is a process that will take a lifetime. However, it is the process that will lead us to Heaven after we die.
