This Proverb says, “His, a man’s own folly will capture the wicked, and he will be held with the cords of sin. He will die for lack of instruction, and in the greatness of his folly he will go astray.” What is folly? Folly is defined as lacking good sense or being foolish.
A fool acts foolishly. The Bible defines a fool as a person who doesn’t believe in God. The Bible says, “The fool has said in his heart there is no God.”
A person who doesn’t believe in God will act impulsively to satisfy his or her natural and sinful nature. God will give them over to their sin with no restraint. As a result, they will be trapped and held in bondage by their sin. They will suffer and die both physically and spiritually. The Bible says, “The wages of sin is death.”
The Bible also says that the only remedy for a person who is bondage to sin is to believe in God and believe in Jesus Christ. Jesus came to the Earth to set people free from bondage to sin. Without Jesus in our lives we cannot break free from sin’s bondage. We will be trapped in sin and end up spiritually dead. The Bible says that those who are spiritually dead when they physically die will spend eternity in Hell.
Therefore, belief in God is the necessary first step in becoming free of bondage to sin. The Bible says, “The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom.” This wisdom will lead us to believe in Jesus, who will save us from our sins and enable us to go to Heaven after we die.
