This Proverb says, “Drink water from your own cistern, and fresh water from your own well… Let your fountain be blessed, and rejoice in the wife of your youth. As a loving hind and a graceful doe, let her breasts satisfy you at all times; be exhilarated with her love.” This Proverb speaks of being faithful to one’s wife rather than going to another woman who may be younger and more physically attractive.
Many men have divorced their wives as their wives grew older and lost physical attraction. They have gone to younger women who they believed would provide more satisfaction. The reality is that these men have not become more satisfied. After the newness and excitation of the other woman has worn off, they are left with more problems. In many cases they are also left with less money and possessions.
The right and correct course of action is to be faithful to one’s wife, the wife of one’s youth. The Bible says that we men are to love our wives as Christ loves the Church and gave Himself up for the Church. We are to give ourselves up for our wife. We are to love, cherish, and nurture her. When we do that, our wife will respond with love in return. Our lives will be rich and full.
I have personally found that treating my wife in the correct manner leads to renewed feelings of love for each other. In fact, our love increases rather than decreases with time. This is but one example of the benefits of living rightly according to the Word of God. Living rightly before God always produces the best results. More importantly it keeps us on the pathway to Heaven.
