This Proverb says, “…Acquire wisdom; And with all your acquiring, get understanding. Praise her, and she will exalt you; She will honor you if you embrace her. She will place on your head a garland of grace; She will present you with a crown of beauty.” Hear, my son and accept my sayings, and the years of your life will be many.”

In this Proverb Solomon continues to advise and counsel his son on the best way to conduct his life here on Earth. God had given Solomon great wisdom. Therefore, Solomon had experienced wisdom’s benefits.

Solomon’s wisdom had resulted in many benefits, and Solomon was held in high esteem by world leaders. For example, the Queen of Sheba traveled to Jerusalem to personally experience Solomon’s wisdom. She was not disappointed.

However, Solomon was not able to bestow his wisdom on his son, Rehoboam. Only God could do that. Rehoboam did not receive God’s wisdom. When Rehoboam became king after Solomon, he made unwise decisions that led to Israel becoming a divided nation.

The Bible says, “The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom.” We must believe in God and obey His guidance for us if we want to have wisdom. Then, we will be able to rightly understand the knowledge we receive. More importantly, we will be able to apply our knowledge with wisdom. As a result we will live a good and successful life. More importantly, we will have a better chance of being allowed into Heaven after we die.
