This Proverb says, “My son, do not reject the discipline of the Lord, or loathe His reproof, for whom the Lord loves He reproves, even as a father, the son in whom He delights.”
God is our Heavenly Father. In many ways He is like our father here on Earth. Specifically, he is like our earthly father in that He will guide us and discipline us as we need to be disciplined. Like our earthly father, God loves us and wants what is good for us. However, God does not guide or discipline those who reject Him.
Those who reject God, He leaves to their own devices. He gives them over to sin for their own destruction. When the wicked are given over to sin they may indeed prosper in this world. However, their end is destruction.
King David observed the wicked prospering and was somewhat jealous of them. He was jealous until he went into the Temple of God to pray. Then, God revealed to David the plight of the wicked people.
David said, in observing the apparent ease of the wicked, “it was troublesome in my sight until I came into the Sanctuary of God. Then I perceived their end. Surely you set them on slippery places. You cast them down to destruction. How they are destroyed in a moment! They are utterly swept away by sudden terrors.”
Therefore, we should not be jealous of those who are wicked and prosper in this world. Their end is destruction. Rather, we should be happy when God disciplines us. We should realize that God considers us His children. Our end therefore is not destruction. It is rather eternity in paradise with God in Heaven.
