This Proverb says, “Let another praise you, and not your own mouth, a stranger, and not just your own lips.” It is a natural desire to want others to think highly of us. Therefore, it is a natural desire to boast or brag about our accomplishments. We may actually seek opportunities to do so. However, we should resist such urges.
The Bible says that God hates pride above all other sins. It was pride that led Satan to rebel against God and try to usurp God’s position. It is pride that will lead to Satan’s eventual destruction.
Therefore, we must resist our proud tendencies. Being aware of this tendency will help us to resist the temptation. To avoid bragging we should think before we speak and choose our words carefully.
The Bible also says, “Pride goes before a fall.” God will judge our pride. If we brag and hold ourselves in high esteem, God may bring us down. God will most likely remove us from our self-perceived lofty position.
Accomplishments in our lives are a good thing. However, when we are blessed with accomplishments we should realize that God gave us our successes. We are to be grateful and give God the credit. With that attitude we can better resist pride.
