This Proverb says, “As in water face reflects face, so the heart of man reflects man.” the Bible characterizes our spiritual make up as the condition of our heart. A good person has a good heart. A bad person has a an evil heart.

I believe that the condition of one’s heart or spiritual tendencies are established at birth. It is revealed early during one’s childhood, and we all sense it within ourselves.

When we were children we all experienced the spiritual tendencies of other children. We could discern this during our school years. Some children were kind and thoughtful. Others were mean, and we characterized them as bullies. These children seemed to be without compassion.

As we grew into our teen years we observed other teens who always seemed to be in trouble with school officials. When they were disciplined, their response to discipline varied. Some continued down a path of disobedience. Some began to change their behavior, trying to become better people.

The true characteristics of a person’s heart is most significantly defined when they are faced with the choice of believing in God. Those with a bad heart will refuse to believe, preferring to continue their lives of lawlessness. Those with a good heart will believe and proceed on the pathway that leads to Heaven.

Indeed who we truly are will be revealed. The Bible says that when Jesus returns he will separate the ‘wheat from the chaff,’ the good from the bad. Only those with good hearts will be allowed in Heaven to live with Jesus. Those with a bad heart will be assigned their place in the eternal torment.
