This Proverb says, “The words of a whisperer are like dainty morsels, and they go down to the innermost part of the body.” Another way of saying this is that a gossip’s words are difficult to forget.

Gossiping is a sin that tempts many people. It can seem appealing to tell of another person’s secret. It is also alluring to hear of another person’s secret. However, gossip can be very damaging on several levels. First, it may damage the person who hears the gossip. A person who listens to gossip will be deeply affected about how they view both the person who gossips and the victim of this gossip. Relationships may be irreparably damaged.

A person who tells the secrets of another person will also be damaged. They will feel guilty about divulging another person’s secrets. Additionally their reputation will suffer. Their friends will avoid sharing personal experiences with them.

The victim of the gossip will also be damaged. Their reputation will suffer. And their relationship with others will also suffer.

Gossiping may be extremely tempting, but we must avoid it. We must not gossip about others. We should also refuse to listen to gossip. Realizing the damage that can occur will motivate us to avoid the situations that lead to gossiping or listening to gossip.
