This Proverb says, “Take away the dross from the silver, and there comes out a vessel for the Smith; take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne will be established in righteousness.” What is dross? Dross is something which is regarded as worthless or rubbish.

Dross may be compared to our own imperfections. Because of sin, no person in the world is perfect before God, because God’s standard is perfection. We are all contaminated by sin.

The Bible indicates that God does not want us to be contaminated with sin. So, God provided a way for us to be cleansed from sin. Jesus Christ is that way. God sent His only Son, Jesus, into the world to become a human being. Jesus was free of sin. He was perfection. He was also the perfect sacrifice to atone for the sins of the world. Jesus was sacrificed on a Roman cross. His shed blood atoned for the sins of those who believe in Him.

The Bible says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have Eternal Life.” That is the Gospel message. When we believe in Jesus we are justified before God. However, we still have imperfections.

God then sanctifies us. He removes our ‘dross’ as we live our lives believing in Jesus. He guides us by the Word of God to gradually remove our imperfections. It becomes a process that continues for the rest of our lives. As we are sanctified, we gain hope that God will allow us into Heaven after we die.
