This Proverb says, “I passed by the field of the sluggard, and by the vineyard of the man lacking sense; and behold, it was completely overgrown with thistles. Its surface was covered with nettles, and its stone wall was broken down. When I saw, I reflected upon it. I looked and received instruction. A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest, then your poverty will come as a robber, and your want like an armed man.” This Proverb paints a picture of laziness and the consequences of being lazy. In short, laziness will lead to poverty and disarray.
God did not put us on this Earth to do nothing. Each of us has a purpose. We are to be productive. We are to work for our survival. It will not happen without putting forth effort. Whatever task we find before us we are to accomplish with diligence and do our very best.
The Bible says, “Whatever you do, do it as unto the Lord.” God calls us to put forth our best effort as we live our lives. When we do that and live as God wants us to live, we will do well. We will have shelter and we will have plenty to eat. We will also be able to provide for our families and give them security and protection.
Being diligent will provide a successful life. However being lazy will result in poverty and failure. Worse, being lazy will not please God. And we will not be fulfilling God’s purpose for us. If we don’t please God in our life, then we may not be allowed into Heaven after we die. That would be a worse consequence than poverty.
