This Proverb says, “If you are slack in the day of distress, your strength is limited.” What is being slack? In short, it is not putting forth one’s best effort for a task or situation. It is being lazy.

The Bible does not approve slackness or laziness. Rather, God wants our best effort. The Bible says, “Whatever you do, do it as unto the Lord.” Therefore, God wants us to be diligent and give the very best we can at whatever we undertake, big or small. Giving something our best effort will produce the best results, and it will please God.

On the other hand being slack or lazy in doing a task will not produce the best results. In fact, being slack may lead to a being poor and in need. The Bible says, “A slack hand causes poverty.”

This Proverb also indicates another problem with being lazy. It implies that if one is lazy that they will be less able to cope with difficult situations. They will experience greater suffering than a person who has the motivation to do well. The person with strong motivation to do well will also be better able to survive during challenging situations.

Perseverance is necessary in walking the right path in life. Perseverance is also necessary if one wants to go to Heaven. The Bible says, “He who perseveres to the end will be saved.”
