This Proverb says, “Do not eat the bread of a selfish man, or desire his delicacies; for as he thinks within himself, so he is. He says to you, “eat and drink!” But his heart is not with you. You will vomit up your morsel you have eaten, and waste your compliments.” Sometimes outward appearances do not reflect true character. A person may appear to be a good person on the outside. However, they may not be good on the inside.

When Jesus was on the Earth as a man, His greatest criticism was against the Pharisees. The Pharisees were the religious leaders of the day. Jesus characterized them as “whitewashed tombs.” They appeared to be religious on the outside. However, on the inside, they were bad people. They demanded the people to keep religious rules that they themselves did not keep. They held people in bondage to the religion. They did not truly care for the people.

So it is with religion today. Many religious leaders keep people in bondage to the religion. They demand monetary donations and become wealthy themselves. The people are trapped because they do not know what God really wants from them. They do not know because they do not know the Word of God, the Bible.

The only thing that will set them free is Jesus Christ, who is the living Word of God. Jesus will give them the Truth, and the Truth will set them free. The Bible says that they will be free, indeed.
