This Proverb says, “Who has woes? Who has contentions? Who has complaining? Who has wounds without cause? Who has redness of eyes? Those who linger long over wine… Your eyes will see strange things and your mind will utter perverse things. And you will be like one who lies down in the middle of the sea… “They struck me, but I did not become ill; They beat me, but I did not know it. When shall I awake? I will seek another drink.”

This Proverb is an apt description of a person who we would characterize as an alcoholic. It is a person who is in severe bondage to alcohol use. Their body craves alcohol continuously. They begin each day with a drink of alcohol and continue drinking throughout the day.

Such people become severely limited in being effective and have ceased to be productive and contributing people in society. They destroy their marriages. They destroy their homes. Frequently they severely harm their children’s lives. They choose alcohol over family and friends.

Worse, alcoholics keep themselves from developing a relationship with God. Their path of destroying their own lives extends beyond the grave. Unfortunately, they will likely spend eternity in Hell.

However, there is a remedy for them. If they cry out to God for help in becoming released from their alcoholic bondage, God will help them. God will set them on a path that will lead them out of bondage to alcohol. God will lead them to Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the only remedy in freeing a person from bondage to sin of any kind. Jesus will set people free from bondage to sin. Indeed, Jesus will set them free from bondage to anything that impedes their journey to Heaven.
