This Proverb says, “The plans of the diligent lead surely to advantage, but everyone who is hasty comes to poverty.” Gaining wealth rapidly may seem like a good thing. However, wealth must also be managed. There are stories of athletes who have become wealthy at a very young age who did not manage their wealth very well. As a result they became poor with nothing to show for their efforts.

On the other hand, when one is diligent, methodical, and gains wealth slowly, they learn how to manage their wealth. They learn how to provide for their families and for their old age years.

Another aspect of the disadvantage of being hasty is making poor investments trying to get richer. There are many accounts of people trying to get rich quickly and making poor investment decisions. When their investments fail to work, they lose everything

Therefore it is far better to be methodical and gain wealth slowly. Our focus should not be to gain wealth and possessions. Rather it should be living rightly before God. The Bible says, “Seek first the Lord and His righteousness and the rest will be giving you as well.” God will provide what you need. He will also teach you how to manage what you acquire.
