This Proverb says, “He who gets wisdom loves his own soul; He who keeps understanding will find good.” Wisdom and understanding are extremely valuable traits to have.
With understanding a person is able to perceive God’s Truths that are in the Bible. God will enable a person to understand these valuable Truths when they believe the Bible to be true. A person cannot understand the Bible unless they first believe the Bible to be true. How then does a person gain that belief? Only God can bring a person to a point of belief.
It is a process that begins with believing that God is real. The Bible says that ‘the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom.’ This healthy fear then starts a person on the pathway that leads to understanding.
What then is wisdom? Wisdom is the ability to properly apply God’s Truth. Understanding God’s Truth is one thing. Properly applying God’s Truth is quite another. The proper application of God’s Truth produces a successful and fruitful life.
The Bible says, “By wisdom a house is built; through understanding it is established; Through knowledge are its rooms filled with rare and beautiful treasures.” Wisdom and understanding are far more valuable than all the riches in the world. We should therefore earnestly pray that God will grant them to us.
