These passages contain two Proverbs. The first Proverb says, “A rich man’s wealth is his strong city, and like a high wall in his imagination.”
There are some rich people in the world who do not believe in God. Nor do they live by God’s Word, the Bible. They believe their strength is in their wealth. They believe this world is all there is and that there is no life after death. Unfortunately for them, there is life after death.
God does exist and He decides where people will spend eternity. Those who believe in God and live by His Word will be allowed into a place of paradise called Heaven. Whereas, those who do not believe in God will spend eternity in the misery of Hell. A person’s wealth and status on Earth will not save them.
The second Proverb says, “Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, but humility goes before honor.” This Proverb is similar to the first Proverb. A wealthy person who does not believe in God tends to be proud or haughty. They believe that their wealth and power are due to their own talents. They believe They are superior to others in the world. Unfortunately for them, their wealth will not follow them after they die. Worse, they will be humbled before the God who they rejected during their life on Earth.
The Bible says that those who were prideful will be humbled. Whereas, those who are humble will be exalted. God hates pride, but He favors humility. Therefore during our life on Earth we should be humble in our pursuits and realize that God is aware of our activities. Then, we may have a chance at life after death.
