This Proverb says, “He who mocks the poor reproaches his maker.”  It affirms that God values the poor and the needy people in the world. Accordingly, God wants us to care about and for those who need help.

When Jesus was on the Earth, He told the people how He viewed the poor and needy with a parable. In His parable Jesus equated our attitude toward him with our attitude toward the poor. Jesus said, “Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of mine, even to the least of them, you did it to Me.”  Therefore, our belief in Jesus is evidenced by our compassion toward those who are needy.

So, if a poor person crosses our path, we must not ignore them. We should be willing to inconvenience ourselves to help when we can. Realizing that Jesus equates our treatment of the poor with our treatment of Him will provide us with motivation to do so.

As we walk our pathway in life we should keep our focus on Jesus Christ and seek to please Him. In so doing, our pathway in life will lead us to Heaven, our real home.
