This Proverb says, “A hot tempered man stirs up strife, but the slow to anger pacifies contention.”
The best way to magnify an argument is to respond in anger. The best way to defuse an argument is to be calm and seek to pacify the situation. Unfortunately, it is more natural to respond in anger than it is to be calm and seek for peace. Therefore, one must have self-control to turn away from anger. However, self-control does not come naturally. It must be cultivated in a person’s life.
The Bible says that self-control is one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit must be present in a person’s life before this can they can have self-control. The Bible says that God gives His Spirit to a person who believes in Jesus Christ.
The Bible also says that Jesus Christ is the living Word of God. Therefore, we draw close to Jesus as we read God’s Word, the Bible. We learn in the Bible that God is compassionate and slow to anger. Therefore, we should also be slow to anger. The Bible says, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.” Being considered by God to be one of His children is a good thing. If God considers us to be his child, we will be allowed to be with Him in Heaven after we die.
