This Proverb says, “Fools mock at sin, but among the upright there is good will.”
A fool does not take sinning seriously. They think it is a minor thing, nothing to worry about. However, sin is serious. Sinning is so serious that God destroyed the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah for their decadent sins. God also destroyed the entire population of a country for their sinfulness and gave their land to Israel. Additionally, God had previously destroyed the entire world’s population with a flood because the people were given over to sin.
If God considers sinning to be so severe, then we should also consider it to be severe. It is not a joking matter. The Bible says that God is Holy and will not tolerate sin. He will not allow sinful people to be in Heaven with Him. With this standard, all of mankind would be doomed to Hell. However, God provided a way for mankind to be forgiven of their sins and allowed into Heaven. That way is Jesus Christ.
The Bible says “God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten son. That whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.” Jesus was sacrificed for the sins of mankind. His shed blood atoned for the sins of those who would believe in Him. We therefore must believe in Jesus to be saved from Hell. He is the only way to be saved. There is no other way. We must read the Bible to understand who Jesus is and how to believe in Him. Without the Bible we cannot know Him.
