These passages contain two Proverbs. The first Proverb says, “A tranquil heart is life to the body, but passion is rottenness to the bones.”
One of the benefits of believing in God and living by His Word is contentment. The Bible says that God is in control of everything including our lives. Nothing happens in our life without God causing or allowing it to happen. God is molding and shaping us to be people that He wants to be with Him in Heaven for all eternity. When we realize this our anxiety is reduced. Our blood pressure goes down. We are less likely to have a stroke or heart disease. We will have a tranquil heart and be healthy.
The second Proverb says, “He who oppresses the poor reproaches his maker, but he who is gracious to the needy honors Him.”
The Bible says that God wants us to have concern for the poor and needy. We are to help them when we have opportunities to do so. When Jesus was on the Earth, He told the people that He equated our treatment of the poor as equal to our treatment of Him. Speaking of the poor Jesus said, “Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.”
Therefore, when we turn our backs on the poor and needy, we are turning our backs on Jesus. We don’t want to do that if we want to be allowed into Heaven after we die.
