This Proverb says, “A truthful witness saves lives, but he who speaks lies is treacherous.”
Lying is damaging and destructive. It is damaging both to the person who lies and to the person who hears the lie. Those who hear and believe lies form wrong opinions and make bad decisions based on the lies. Bad decisions lead people down the pathways that can cause hardships in their lives.
Unfortunately, lying is pervasive in America today. Actually, it is getting worse. We see this displayed in our news media. Networks that support one political candidate will lie to support that candidate. They will also lie to disgrace the opposite candidate. Those who believe these lies may well vote for political candidates that will cause much damage to their country. This situation is playing out before our very eyes today.
How then can people discern lies? The only way to discern a lie is to know the truth. The Bible says that Jesus is The Truth. The Bible also says that Jesus is the living Word of God. Therefore, we will know the Truth if we read the Bible. The Bible characterizes things that are good and things that are bad.
With this knowledge we are better able to evaluate the character of certain people, including political candidates. We can detect character flaws and then make better voting decisions.
