These passages contain two Proverbs. The first Proverb says, “Will they not go astray who devise evil? But kindness and truth will be to those who devise good.”
Those who devise evil do so because they do not believe in God or live their lives according to the Word of God. Such people do not have guidance or boundaries in their life. Therefore, they act according to their natural and sinful emotions. Unfortunately, the natural state of human beings is to be sinful. Turning away from our natural sinful desires takes effort and motivation. God will provide motivation for some people to turn from sin to doing what is right and good.
Those who do good do so because they believe in God and live their lives according to God’s Word. Those who live by God’s Word turn from sin. As a result they turn from evil and wickedness to kindness and Truth. God’s truth becomes their guiding light, and they do good rather than evil. As a result, their final destination will be Heaven rather than Hell.
The second Proverb says, “In all labor there is profit, but mere talk leads to poverty.” If a person desires to be successful and earn a good leaving, they must exert effort and diligently work for their success. Mere words will not bring them financial security.
In a larger sense the Bible says that we will be judged according to our actions here on the Earth. It is our actions that validate our belief in God rather than our words. The Bible says that we must love God in order to be saved from Hell. That love is validated by doing what God commands of us in His Word, the Bible.
