This Proverb says, “The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, but the soul of the diligent is made fat.”

A sluggard or very lazy person desires the good things in life but is unwilling to work for them. This person wants a good place to live, good food, wealth, and possessions. However, they do not have these things. A lazy person cannot get them because they will not exert any effort. They want it all handed to them. Therefore, the lazy person is never satisfied.

On the other hand, a diligent person is willing to work to get the things he or she desires. They establish goals and are diligent and persistent in achieving them. As a result, they have plenty of food, a good place to live, and many possessions.

A diligent person is also likely to read the Bible. Such a person desires to be spiritually nourished. They pursues knowledge, understanding, and wisdom through God’s Word. As a result they are spiritually filled and enjoy the fruits of God’s Holy Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

Unfortunately, a lazy person is not so inclined. They will not exert any effort to become spiritually nourished as their soul may desire. Whereas, a diligent person’s soul is filled with good things. They are more likely to be happy and content with their lives. More importantly, their diligence will more likely keep them on the pathway that leads to Heaven.
