This Proverb says, “From the fruit of a man’s mouth he enjoys good, but the desire of the treacherous is violence. The one who guards his mouth preserves his life; the one who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.” Our speech or what we say to others is very important regarding the outcome of events in our life. If our speech is gracious and pleasant to others, they will likely say pleasant things to us. If we speak well of others, they will likely speak well of us. Other people will want to associate with us and they will feel comfortable in our presence. The fruit of our good speech will return good things to us. In other words, we will reap what we sow.

On the other hand, those who speak bad things of and to others will also reap what they sow. If they openly criticize and defame other people, they will quickly find themselves isolated and lonely. If they sow destruction they will reap destruction. They will indeed come to ruin,

What we say to others reflects our heart or our character. A person with a good heart will say good and edifying things to others. Whereas, a wicked person will speak disturbing and troubling words. A person’s words can be a good indicator of a person’s true character and beliefs.

The Bible says we will be accountable for the words we have spoken to others. Therefore we should always strive to choose our words carefully and to refrain from destructive speech.
