This Proverb says, “The hand of the diligent will rule, but the slack hand will be put to forced labor.” There is no substitute for diligence or hard work in becoming successful in this world. A person must exert effort in their home or work environments to produce good results in their life.

A diligent person is a person who has self-control.  Having self-control enables them to control or rule their circumstances rather than being ruled by them. They are willing to exert effort or expend energy to produce favorable results.

Whereas, a lazy person is ruled by their circumstances. Such a person refuses to exert any effort to favorably change a bad situation in their life. For example, they may refuse to get a job to pay for their needs. They may rather beg at street corners to get money for food.

A person who is diligent in their job is also more likely to be promoted to higher positions. A diligent person will gain a favorable reputation in a rather short period of time. Their supervisor will realize this person’s value and will trust them with greater responsibilities.

A lazy person will also gain a reputation quickly. This person will be assigned menial tasks and require close supervision to ensure their tasks are accomplished. This person will not be promoted.

Being diligent will require more effort than being lazy. However, being diligent will produce far better results in a person’s life.
