This Proverb says, “He who walks in integrity walks securely, but he who perverts his ways will be found out.” A person who walks in integrity is one who tells the truth. This person tells the truth even when the truth may hurt them or put them at disadvantage. One of the benefits of always being truthful is that one doesn’t have to recall previous lies in order to be consistent. This pressure is removed.
On the other hand, a person who lies or perverts their ways is under continual pressure. They always have to recall lies they might have told in order to be consistent with their story. This is virtually impossible to do. As a result, a person who lies will be found out. Their reputation will suffer, and their credibility will be destroyed. Their counsel will be ignored by family, friends and associates.
The Bible says that God hates lying. Satan is characterized as the father of lies. His methods are devious and treacherous. Satan destroys with his lies. So, too, does a person who lies destroy. They destroy people and relationships. The fruit they produce in their lives is bad.
Therefore, it is always best to be truthful, even when the truth hurts. Others will forgive our transgressions against them. However, we will have their trust. That is far better than gaining advantage through lies and losing that trust.
