This Proverb says, “The mouth of the righteous flows with wisdom, but the perverted tongue will be cut out. The lips of the righteous bring forth what is acceptable, but the mouth of the wicked, what is perverted.” When a righteous person speaks, his or her words are influenced by the Word of God. Their words reflect understanding of God’s Word, the Bible, and they have a healing and motivating effect.
On the other hand, a wicked person’s words are contrary to God’s Word. Therefore, a wicked person’s words do not heal or motivate. Rather, they are perverted and damaging to others.
The Bible says that God will judge us for the words we have spoken to others. God will bless those who have spoken to others words of God’s wisdom. He will reward those who have helped and motivated others.
However, God will punish the wicked for their harmful words. As this Proverb says, “The perverted tongue will be cut out.” This may indeed be a literal punishment for a wicked person.
Therefore, when we speak to others, our words should be like “apples of gold in settings of silver” to the people in our lives. We cannot speak such words unless we are grounded in God’s Word, the Bible. The Bible should therefore be our ‘Daily Bread’ and our guiding light.
