This Proverb says, “The fear of the Lord prolongs life, but the years of the wicked will be shortened. The hope of the righteous is gladness, but the expectation of the wicked perishes.”
The Bible also says, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” The Lord grants wisdom to those who fear Him and walk in His ways. Walking in God’s ways leads to a healthy life in mind, body, and soul. Therefore, a person who fears the Lord will likely have a long life.
A wicked person, on the other, is one who does not believe in God or fear Him. Such a person is given over to sinful pursuits which lead to poor health. Poor health will lead to a shortened life. As the Bible says, “The wages of sin in is death.”
Unfortunately, when a person has a short life or dies early, they will have less opportunity to find the Truth. They will have less opportunity to change their behavior so as to have Eternal Life after they die.
God gives each one of us one life in which to develop spiritually. He doesn’t force any of us down a path of life. We must choose which path we will take. We must choose whether to believe in God or to reject Him. The choices we make will have eternal consequences. Right choices will lead to life. Wrong choices will lead to death.
